"Bigtable and Megastore - Storage Technologies for Highly Available Interactive Services"

Users on the World Wide Web don't like to wait more than a second or two for their cloud applications to load, so it is vital that the data storage backends provide good performance no matter how many users access them at the same time from all over the world. Generic database technologies are not tailored for this use case, so Google uses custom technologies to achieve the goal of scalable, highly available storage. This talk gives a brief overview of Megastore, a storage system designed to meet the requirements of today's interactive online services, and its base technology Bigtable, a distributed, highly scalable storage system for structured data.
